I've now spent the last 24 hours 'struggling' to make it as a single parent. No, I promise I didn't say something stupid to have Jillian run out on me. She's away on a business trip until Thursday afternoon and it has caused me to take care of little Megan solo. And I'm convinced the stars are aligned to place some road blocks in my way this week.
This would not be a problem except for one thing. Our daycare opens at 6:30 am and I have to be at school (30 minutes away) by 7:00. As an added bonus, she's getting her first tooth. And the dog has to have four different medicines administered to him. It's a long story. Yea rah.
Yesterday was slightly uneventful. The only hiccup in my plan was that the roofer picked coming over while I was trying to put Megan to bed to get the check to put our new roof on. But I officially survived day one.
This morning was the prime test. My lovely angel woke me up, cooing at 5 am. While I needed to get up earlier than normal to get all three of us ready, that was smidge to early. Two more pacifiers later and she was asleep at 5:30. Just enough time to medicate the dog, get myself cleaned up, and finally, right before 6, I woke her up. Thankfully she was half-groggy and forgot all about the tooth coming in.
Megan was too cranky yesterday for her school pictures, so I had to redress her in her dress and tights for picture day, take two. Putting tights on a baby, in the semi-dark over a diaper, is quite a challenge. Something tells me this was my first lesson in not understanding women's fashion.
Luckily we were right on time getting to daycare and I was only late to school by 3 minutes. I get to try this race from the daycare to school two more mornings, so we'll see if I can improve on that time.
Home life tonight was challenged not by Megan, but by the roofers pounding endlessly on our roof. So good news, the roof is almost on, but it meant a hyper active dog and a very confused baby.
But we made the best of the situation during dinner, as you can see. While mom was gone, I let Megan practice feeding herself. That had mixed results. Well, mostly terrible, but she's super cute. She still can't decide if she's left or right-handed though.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have bottles to wash for tomorrow.

It sounds like you are handling the big picture well in spite of what it may seem to you at any one moment. You even managed to get a new blog entry posted with more than one photo.
In fact, I love the photo story that also gives me, and maybe others, a glimpse into Megan's gene pool. In the first pic I see Jillian. In the second, I see you, Brian. In the third I see Sue Boote. Finally, the fourth pic is Megan--a combination that makes he unique (and very cute if a Gram has to add that point).
Only two more mornings left on your own. I hope the next entry is not a photo of a speeding ticket...
Have a great day!
