Hungry Hungry Meggo

Everyday Megan figures out new things to get into that Jillian and I obviously would not like her to get into. However, her cat burglar skills are improving as of late. We 'childproofed' a few of the kitchen cabinets that we definitely didn't want her getting into, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of locking ALL the drawers. So there are several nights where she assumed we would want all the ziploc sandwich bags pulled out, the pot holders thrown on the floor, or perhaps our blender pieces needed to be in the living room.

But these are all the usual expectations of a curious kid seeing how the world around her works. No big deal. But recently she's decided to test our resolve a bit more. See, she's figured out how to open the refrigerator door. So far, there are two things that hold her attention within it: gogurts and sippy cups.

Today, she opened the door and pulled an unopened box of gogurts out. She sat on the linoleum and, had I let her, she was well on her way to opening the box and devouring the contents inside. Oh boy. But the cutest 'trick' she does lately involves the sippy cup.

Throughout the day, we give Megan three types of drinks; milk, water, and apple juice (pronounced with a silent 'j' by Megan). In the morning she usually gets milk and then at night we give her a sippy cup of juice (watered down) and then water thereafter. Some nights when she's especially cute or if she's not feeling well we cave in and give her juice more often. It's by far her favorite drink of the three.

Well, as a time saver we would make various sippy cups and just put them in the fridge. Or if she didn't want to drink her milk one morning, we'd toss it back in the fridge to use for later. (foreshadow alert)

The other day while Jillian was finishing dinner we watched in amazement as Megan (with a sippy cup of water in hand) walked over to the fridge, struggled with the door and opened it, placed her sippy cup with water on the top shelf, grabbed another sippy cup, drank it, found that it contained juice, shut the fridge, and toddled over to us as if nothing crazy had happened. I was in shock. Jill was flummoxed. Neither of us could believe what we just saw.

In one easy movement, she again, readjusted our views of what she was capable of. I'm scared to ask what's next.

That's fantastic! Maggie (who is not a huge fan of milk), has taken to "hiding" her milk sippy in the oven drawer, shutting it, and walking away, as if the milk never existed. These little people, they're smart!
