Fall Festival

The other day in the komodo dragon post I mentioned we went to the 'Fall Festival' being put on by Megan's daycare to raise money for a local charity. During that post I focused on a serendipitous moment between Megan and a rather scary looking reptile. However, there were much more things there for Megan to experience.

The three of us shared pizza slices at an obscenely small table with a mom and her two boys. One of whom, Ethan, had been hanging out with Megan a little TOO closely when I had picked her up earlier that day. Hmm, note to self, keep eye on Ethan. But the staff at the daycare were really wonderful and, at least in my presence, always seem to dote on Megan. They love her waddle/walk, her 'mean' face that only makes you laugh, and they love her personality. Of course they do, she's mine.

But after a light dinner, we headed to the games. (At this point I apologize for the picture quality. I only had my cellphone with me so these are the best I could do. But I figured grainy pictures were better than no pictures right?)

First stop: Bouncy Castle. It's a scaled-down version of what you've probably seen all over the place. A small generator keeps the thing afloat and kids knock each other senseless in the name of fun. Fortunately for Megan she had it all to herself for the most part. I wasn't sure how Megan would react but the director said they take it out on rainy/snowy days from time to time so there's a chance this was not her first time. Megan can't jump yet, but she LOVES to run around in it and just fall over. Just that was fun to watch.

Second stop: Modified Cornhole. As you can see from the pic, Megan took some 'slight' liberties with the 'suggested' rules of standing at a reasonable distance from the board. Luckily, the staff member looked the other way while Megan dunked the beanbags into the clown's mouth. Her skill was rewarded with a plastic heart bracelet which she barely noticed, and we were off.

Third stop: Fishing. We made a BRIEF pitstop thinking Megan might want to have her face painted. Nope. She sat down, felt the brush hit her cheek and promptly ran off crying. That crisis was quickly averted when she saw the fishing game. This was her favorite part of the entire night. She didn't really care for the plastic fishing rod you were supposed to use, instead relying on her cat-like reflexes and snatching the fish with her bare hands. She excelled at this task.

Overall she had a great time and we loved meeting more of the staff, and her future teachers, and feel blessed to have found such a wonderful place for her to grow.

Day care sure has changed since I had to use it for Brian about 30 years ago!

Wish she were here to interact with our newest kitten, Misty. Megan could teach her fishing skills and Misty could teach Megan ball "mousing" skills. I can just imagine the interchanges...

And, yes, you guessed correctly that grainy pictures are better than no pictures :-)
