As I write this, I PROMISE I have tried on MULTIPLE occasions to shoot video of what I'm about to describe. I am not a good enough writer to fully articulate how funny/entertaining it is. I promise to try to get video without her witnessing in the near future.
In any event, my daughter is in her 'dancing queen' phase. Remember how I wrote several weeks ago about her infatuation with cartoons? Well, that still exists, but now, half the time she whines for us to turn to the XM stations on our DirecTV so she can dance to the tunes. So far, her favorite jams are "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus and "3" by Britney Spears. Look, I'm not proud to type that sentence either but parents of little kids sometimes have to do things they aren't proud of in the name of entertainment.
But the funny part isn't the songs that are played, but her dancing style. To help picture it, imagine if she were a toilet seat tester but take away the toilet. She just wanders the floor doing mini-squats and squealing. It might be the funniest thing I've ever seen. Her other go to move is similar to walking as if she's stuck in mud. She keeps her legs real stiff and, without bending them, waddles a few steps in this manner. Priceless.
I'm not sure where, how, or why she thinks what she's doing is dancing (save your snide comments about my dance skills please) but I like it. I like it for its pure, uninhibited joy that it brings her. I hope she continues to embrace that inner confidence that propels her in that direction.

How are you going to deny the reading public free shots at your dance ability? This blog is for the PEOPLE!
Seriously though, I do love a dancing baby. When we went out to dinner earlier this week there was a blonde version of Megan rockin' OUT to the muzak...and it was just too cute. I love how kids have no sense of shame or self-consciousness. They feel the music and let it move them. It's how we all should be (and more accurately, it's how we all should let others be....because joking about your moves aside, I would take an enthusiastic dancer of any level, over a reserved insecure one any day.) Let's just all let loose and have some fun- even if it looks like we're testing toilet seats!
In a related story, a few weeks ago, I started a tradition at work known as the "Friday Song". Every Friday at 5 sharp, I play Britney's "3" loud enough for the entire floor to jam to. We all push that last bit of work aside, in favor of some dancing. It is the unrivaled highlight of my week. Meg is welcome any time.
