Shopping from the Womb

A few weeks ago I made the claim to some friends that I wanted to be careful with all the pink stuff for my daughter. I don't want her to buy in to that whole "I'm a helpless princess" type of vibe. I want an independent, self-reliant young lady, and I'm not sure the media, clothiers, and society will allow that to happen. I don't need bedazzled onesies that say "Born to Shop." I don't need to flip through the Pottery Barn kids catalog and see pictures of toddler girls playing in the kitchen, pushing their own dolls in strollers, etc. Then I went shopping today. Here are some of the things we bought.

Heck, even the dog likes the new outfits (and yes, that's a penguin ... guess who picked that one out?)

And don't worry. If we need her to wear purple to some early season high school football games this fall she could always roll in this:

So for all my blustering ... I am a hypocrite. I've now amended my rule to only buy classic, tastefully done clothes. We'll see how long that promise lasts.

Anyway, I'm confounded that this baby, who still doesn't have a name, is just over 3 months away from even being born, and I'm already going shopping for her and buying multiple outfits. This can not bode well for the future. However, I will admit that buying for girls is FAR more fun than boys clothes shopping.
